Engineering College Admission through NRI Quota

There is a special scheme to enable foreign nationals, persons of Indian origin (PIOs), non-resident Indians (NRIs) to apply for direct admission to undergraduate engineering programmes in India.

This Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme is coordinated by Educational Consultants India Ltd (Ed. CIL), a public sector enterprise under India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

The admission is for undergraduate engineering programmes offered by the 15 National Institutes of Technology (formerly Regional Engineering Colleges) and other centrally-funded institutions (except the Indian Institutes of Technology) and Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.

Under the scheme, admissions are offered to foreign nationals, PIOs and NRIs who have passed the senior secondary, or any other exam equivalent to 12 years of schooling in India, and have it at least 60 per cent marks in aggregate or 6.75 CGPA on a 10-point scale or equivalent grades in all the subjects of the qualifying examination. Indian nationals seeking admissions should also have studied abroad for at least five years (including the qualifying examination, i.e. classes XI and XII) during the last eight years. Tuition fees for such students is US$4,000 a year (excluding hostel accommodation and other miscellaneous fees).
